My early favorites of 2010...

As far as albums go, most that I've listened to have been meh, but there are three very special ones:

1. Yeasayer - Odd Blood
I know I've already mentioned this twice lately, but it's worth repeating as much as possible. It's going to take something pretty revolutionary to bump this down my list. I'm still convinced that "Ambling Alp," "Madder Red," and "I Remember" are some of the best songs I've ever heard. This album represents that extremely rare case when the experiment works.

2. Jónsi - Go
Not quite on par with Sigur Ros's better work, but still a strong album. It sort of takes off where Med Sud left off, mostly in the happy/energetic vein. That doesn't work for me all the time, but most of it does, especially "Boy Lilikoi."

3. Rogue Wave - Permalight
My most surprising favorite so far. I had never heard of the band. The songwriting is so solid and impressively original. When something sounds peculiar at first and gets infectious on the second listen, that's usually a very good sign for me. I've grown to love many of the songs: "You Have Boarded," "We Will Make A Song Destroy," "Permalight," "Sleepwalker," and others.

I've also heard a number of songs (apart from these albums) that are spectacularly good:

1. Kavinsky - "Nightcall"
2. Goldfrapp - "Voicething"
3. The Besnard Lakes - "And This Is What We Call Progress"
4. Gorillaz - "On Melancholy Hill"
5. Peter Gabriel - "The Boy In The Bubble"
6. Phantogram - "Mouthful Of Diamonds"
7. Beach House - "Zebra"

And I'm really looking forward to these releases:

Midnight Juggernauts - The Crystal Axis
Villagers - Becoming a Jackal
Tracey Thorn - Love and Its Opposite

I've been on a massive Atmosphere/Chevelle/Muse kick lately.

*feels awkward*

You bumped my post off the page!

This means war, Malren. This means war.

Anyway, I definitely like Muse, especially their last album.

Take that.

Really? I'm cool with The Resistance, but I have a boner for Origin Of Symmetry and Absolution. Those be my jams.

I was listening to those albums freshman year of highschool.

I agree, I like all of Muse' works, but their style has greatly changed since albums like Showbiz. They've become too American Pop for my taste. Europe lost a great band to us, heh.
I can no longer recall the day I realized my life was not perfect, my family was not unblemished, and that everything was not going to be alright.

I am also a HUGE fan of Eluveitie (FOLK METAL!) and though I was worried I wouldn't like the way they were going with their sound after a few people left their band, I still find them fantastic. That, and I love the fact that someone finally found a way to get a hurdy gurdy into a METAL band. That's just fucking hardcore. \m/

EDIT: If you want to hear why I like Eluveitie so much, listen to their album "Slania" and in particular the song "Slania's Song"

Nice, that rocks. You want some good metal, I'll give it to you =P. Been on quite the Isis kick lately, great band; if you like some good music that flows, also Amon Amarth a Viking Metal band which is awesome and Cult of Luna some band from France I think with a similar style to Isis. Also, In Flames is always a good standard for me just to rock out.

Otherwise, I usually listen to some good hip hop in the car, a lot of Doomtree lately, great alternative rap straight from home in Minnesota word up lol, and some Mos Def lately.

Ah, Eluveitie is a band? My buddy named my Pally Eluveite...I think that was the spelling...and I was wondering if it was derivative of something.
